First of all, thanks to all of you for your continued support of SoccerCity and sticking by us as we’ve navigated this tricky process. From day 1, our objective has been to be transparent, honest and to take the high road at all times. It certainly hasn’t been easy but most things that are worthwhile in life don’t come easily. Here’s what we’ve been up to and what our next steps are:
*Over the past few months, we have taken some down time to reassess everything and re-energize for the battle ahead. As you know, we have been attacked from all angles and, candidly, it’s been extremely disappointing for this wonderful group of men and women to be treated this way. We are a group of people who have chosen to take on this project because we want to leave a legacy that goes well beyond our personal successes. The fact that all of you continue to reach out and want to help us get to the finish line motivates us greatly and keeps us going on the toughest of days. We cannot do it without you and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support.
*You may have seen a new “plan” come out over the past week with a competing initiative to our proposal. There will be plenty of time to dissect this initiative from the “Friends of SDSU” but let me give you some of my brief initial thoughts:
-We have said all along that we welcome competition because we believe competition makes everyone better. We are glad that the people who have constantly attacked us are finally focusing on themselves and trying to come up with a plan of their own.
-You will notice that the outline of their “plan” has many of the same elements of SoccerCity. That is not by mistake. Imitation is always the highest form of flattery.
-In its simplest form, the “Friends of SDSU” plan is asking the people of San Diego to give them the land and then let them figure out what to do with it at a later, unspecified date. It would appear they are doing so because they don’t have a real plan, don’t know how they will pay for their plan, and don’t want to spend the time and money putting together a real plan. By way of comparison, we have spent two years and millions of dollars putting together a comprehensive plan that is available for all of the public to read. Our plan is transparent, theirs isn’t.
-Take your time to learn more about these "Friends of SDSU.” Most notably, a large number of them are local developers. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to why local developers might be opposed to SoccerCity.
-The “Friends of SDSU” state that, under their initiative, the “door is open for MLS.” Unfortunately, that is patently false. They can’t and won’t have an MLS team if their initiative passes. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just important that people know that upfront.
*Next Steps:
You’ll be pleased to know that we are pushing forward towards our goal of creating the ultimate Live Work Play community that will be the envy of cities across our beautiful nation. We are committed to making this happen because over 70% of San Diegans have repeatedly told us that they want SoccerCity to become a reality at the Mission Valley site. We will be continuing our push towards MLS by having clinics, fundraisers, parties, camps and many other exciting events that will engage San Diegans in a positive and meaningful way.
Finally, we will be doing a FaceBook Live Q&A tomorrow at 3:00PM Pacific Time. We look forward to hearing from all of you tomorrow.
As always, thank you for the love and support, it truly means the world to me.
Onwards!
